International Public Lecture: Transforming the Future of the Tropics – Smart Tourism and Enterprise Architecture
What they needed
The Department of Informatics, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Tanjungpura, together with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), wanted to strengthen international collaboration through an academic exchange of insights on smart technology across strategic sectors in the tropical region: education, tourism, and healthcare. A speaker was needed who could connect enterprise architecture and smart city perspectives with the real-world challenges of global tourism transformation.
What I delivered
I was one of the speakers at the International Public Lecture "Transforming the Future of the Tropics: The Role of Smart Solutions in Education, Tourism, Healthcare, and Beyond," held at the UNIMAS campus. My contribution focused on the transformation of global tourism through smart city platforms and the role of enterprise architecture in designing smart, sustainable tourism solutions, alongside presentations by Dayang Nurfatimah bt Awg Iskandar (health and agriculture technology), Mohammad bin Hossin (AI for preserving Sarawak Malay pantun), and Enriko Yudhistira Ramadhan (e-healthcare and smart early screening).
Outcome
The event brought together academics and researchers from Indonesia and Malaysia in a single cross-border forum, strengthening UNTAN's research network with UNIMAS in the field of smart technology. The presentation on smart tourism and enterprise architecture added concrete perspective to the development of technology-based tourism solutions in the tropics, while also opening the door for further collaborative research between the two institutions.
Outcome
Strengthened international collaboration between UNTAN and UNIMAS and enabled cross-border knowledge exchange on the use of smart technology in tourism, healthcare, and education for the tropical region.
